Chat Therapy

  • Real-time communication using only the written word
  • A degree of anonymity that eases the inhibition of therapy
  • More affordable than face-to-face therapy
  • See the Guidelines for Chat Therapy for more information.

Online Chat gives you the help that you need with convenience and comfort of staying at home. Perhaps the right therapist cannot be found where you live or you want a therapist who shares your values. Whatever the reason, you've decided that online therapy is right for you. Perhaps this is the only therapy you would consider right now. You are not alone, many people have apprehension about traveling to a therapist's office.

What differentiates chat is that you and your therapist will not see or hear each other during the session. You are "blinded" to some of the aspects of communication normally used, such as tone of voice, eye contact, gestures, body language and even ways you are communicating that you are unaware of. Because these things are missing, you must compensate by the depth and expression of your writing. The struggle to communicate in this way will force you to go deeper within yourself as you strive to find the words to express what is going on inside you. In the end, you may end up with a greater understanding of yourself, and hopefully a beneficially therapy experience.

Your therapist will be online with you for the entire session. He or she will dedicate the entire time to you. Nobody else will be chatting with the therapist during your appointment. It is important that you also dedicate yourself 100% to your session.
