Chat Therapy is not appropriate for some crisis situations. If you believe there
is a danger to yourself or others please call 911 or visit your local hospital emergency
room.
Guidelines for Chat Therapy
Be sure you are comfortable and able to use your computer for therapy.
Your therapist will be online with you for the entire session. He or she will dedicate
the entire time to you. Nobody else will be chatting with the therapist during your
appointment. It is important that you also dedicate yourself 100% to your session.

Close all open programs except for the chat software.

Clear off the desk or table you will be typing on; remove anything that might be distracting.

Give yourself as much privacy as you can; notify others that you are not to be disturbed.

Turn off the ringers on all of your phones and cell phones.

Turn down the volume on your answering machine.

Turn off your TV and radio.

Prepare background music ahead of time, so you do not have to get up to put in a CD
or tape. unless you find background music helpful to the therapy process.
